Our correspondent Siya Moringe caught up with the lovely Britni Danielle on Day 2 of #SMWJHB, as she was about to give a “Master Class: How to Turn Instagram into a POWERFUL -and- Free- Marketing tool”.
HOW DO YOU USE SOCIAL MEDIA AS A MEDIUM OF EXPRESSION?.
That’s a heavy question. Firstly, I use social media to connect with other people, because it’s social media. I use it to connect with people who are doing similar things to what I do, whether it’s writing, talking about social issues, entrepreneurship. I like to use it to connect with like-minded people and also to spread the word about the stuff that I am doing, and build a community of people who are engaged with what I am doing.
HOW DO YOU USE INSTAGRAM IN YOUR WORK AS A WRITER ?
In that part of my work I use it to post images from things that I write about for certain publications. I’ll post them up on Instagram and say “Hey, check this out today we talking about body image…..”. I just use it as another means to spread the word about what I am doing.
ANY ADVICE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL SKEPTICAL ABOUT USING INSTAGRAM OR SOCIAL MEDIA TO GET THEIR BRANDS OUT THERE?
I would say definitely don’t shy away from it. I would say embrace it as a way to spread the word about your brand, your business or whatever you are doing. It’s a good way to sort of shape how people view you.
WHAT’S THE FUTURE FOR YOU LOOKING LIKE ON INSTAGRAM ?
Hopefully Long. *laughing* More often things, travelling things; just enjoying life you know.
