Paid In Full: Fixing Music Rights For Artist – This panel focused on how artists can benefit from their intellectual property and ways they can also protect it. The discourse featured Chinedu Chukwuji (COSON), Ezegozie Eze (Universal Music Group Africa), Seun Bankuli (Bankuli Entertainment), Ubi Frankilin (Made Men Music Group) and it was moderated by Dami Elebe. Artists need to build up the power of the collective to be able to fight for their rights. Adequate understanding of the rights of artists is essential to fixing the issue of music rights because many don’t know their rights when they’ve been infringed on.
Changing the Game: Artists as Leaders – This panel explained why artists need to do more with their platforms as thought leaders and influencers in terms of taking more risks and building new models of business. Artists need to leverage their brands with merchandise and channel it appropriately. It is important to put structures in place and make the music industry more professional. Panelists for this session included D’banj, Michael Ugwu (Sony Africa), Obi Asika (Dragon Africa), Uzoma Dozie (Diamond Bank) and was moderated by Chin Okeke.
The Artist As A Brand … Defining Your Value – This event sought to understand the involvement of social media in terms of the artist brand value. The panel was moderated by Maria Okanrende and it featured Godwin Tom, Lanre Masha (Trace), Akintunde Bada (Viacom) and Tec (Show Dem Camp). Artists need to define what story they want to tell and determine the content to be promoted. It is also important to know what you want to do with your brand and create a strategy to achieve.
Man’s Not Hot: How Radio and Radio Personalities Still Pioneer Pop Culture – This event took a deep dive at the contributing factors to today’s trends especially as radio and radio personalities in the past have influenced who are the active players in the trends. This panel was hosted by Folu Storms (Smooth FM), Dotun (Cool FM), Shedy Kay (Urban FM) and Simi Drey (Beat FM).
